Hi everyone,
the first question about the exchange year is: when did everything start?
I started thinking about it at the end of the school in 2017 thanks to a friend of mine who came home after a year in the USA. We prepared a party for her and she told us a lot of things that she had done, seen, tried and felt. I would have listened to her for hours and hours. It was really interesting! She even couldn't talk in Italian, so she sometimes said something in English and I was seriously staring at her! I think that this was the moment when I really started thinking that I would have loved to do an exchange year in America.
Then, I started talking with my parents about it and they hopefully agreed because they think that it's an amazing and useful experience and they know that I care a lot about it. I am extremely thankful to the opportunity that they gave me. It really became one of my biggest dream!
I officially decided that I wanted to become an exchange student at the end of August 2017.
After that, I started to ask for information and to go to some meetings until I finally signed the paper to do the test at the beginning of October.
The test consisted in two parts:
- ELTIS test: a written test where there are the listening, the reading and the comprehension.
- The interview: a 'test' where you have to talk in English (if you can) to a person of your association about the reasons why you choose to become an exchange student, why in America, what are your goals and other stuff like that. Then they tell you some very important rules about the exchange year and... everything is done!
Some days later, my organisation told me that I passed the test, so this meant that I became a fully-fledged EXCHANGE STUDENT. I can't tell how happy I was!😃
